Why am I breaking out? If you suffer from breakouts, there is always a root cause. Treating your skin from the inside is just as essential as treating your skin from the outside. Read below about the 9 effective ways to be acne free and prevent breakouts.
1. Stay Hydrated And Drink Water to Be Acne Free
In order not to break out, the first thing I do in the morning, after brushing my teeth and taking a shower, is to drink a cup of water to hydrate. When you wake up, your body is dehydrated, so hydration is essential. It is even more important to maintain hydration throughout the day. This routine is one of the many effective ways to be acne free and keep your skin moist. You will be surprised at how many people forget to drink water in the morning and even throughout the day.
I start my morning with one cup of green tea at breakfast and for the rest of the day, I drink boiled water and avoid any juices or sodas. My skin shows it. I am in my early 40’s and have great skin (more about me here). My sweet grandma, who lived until 93, drank boiled water all her life and always had excellent skin.
2. Drink a Glowing Green Smoothie
If you prefer to skip green tea in the morning, an excellent alternative would be a Glowing Green Smoothie from Kimberly Snyder. She is a certified nutritionist and my favorite wellness and lifestyle, expert. She came up with the recipe for this Glowing Green Smoothie. It consists of filtered water, spinach, celery stalk, romaine lettuce, a green apple, pear, banana, lemon juice, and cilantro or parsley. All you need to do is blend the water along with the spinach and romaine lettuce. Then add the apple, pear, cilantro, or parsley and blend again until smooth. Finally, add the banana and the lemon juice and blend one more time. Your face will instantly start glowing and it can prevent breakouts.
3. Eat Plenty of Fresh Fruits and Vegetables
Another effective way to be acne free is to keep an eye on your food intake. No matter how you slice it, the appearance of your skin is a reflection of your diet. Opt for fresh fruits and vegetables every day and try to stay away from processed foods. These processed (frozen) foods, like pizza, french fries, and pastries used to be a regular part of my diet. I now eat these items every so often. I have been incorporating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in my daily diet and it has made a considerable difference in the appearance of my skin.
4. Why am I breaking out? Don’t Smoke and Drink Alcohol!
If you want to prevent breakouts, don’t smoke and drink alcohol in moderation. Excessive use of alcohol ages the skin and could cause a hormone imbalance as well. As a result, this could lead to acne. Personally, I don’t enjoy alcoholic drinks other than the occasional glass of red wine.
5. An Effective Way to be Acne Free is Don’t Eat Junk Food!
Another effective way to be acne free is to skip the junk food. Junk food is not a regular part of my diet. That said, if every so often I feel like a burger and fries, I don’t deprive myself. You also have to live a little. The only time I might experience a minor breakout is if I eat very greasy food. At least by then, I know what caused it. If you want to prevent breakouts, the best thing is to stay away from saturated fats as much as possible for this very reason.
6. Limit Your Sugar Intake
If you have to ask yourself, why am I breaking out? Let me tell you why. Most of you know that refined sugars (or any sugars) are harmful to your skin. You eat too much of these and you have yourself a breakout. I limit my sugar intake as much as I can. I do love dark chocolate, so I have no problem enjoying a piece of chocolate that is 70% dark (or higher). After all, dark chocolate is good for you and contains a lot of antioxidants.
I also make it a habit to read the ingredient list of the products I buy. I watch out for syrup, glucose, fructose, evaporated cane juice, or any other synonyms for sugar that are listed. These products remain on the grocery store shelves and don’t end up in my shopping cart.
7. Don’t Touch Your Face
If you are wondering, why am I breaking out all of a sudden? The answer could be plain and simple. Don’t touch your face. You are at work, typing away on your keyboard while sitting at your desk. Now, you need a moment to think, and off you go touching your face. All the bacteria from your keyboard have now been transferred over to your face.
It can lead to breakouts, especially if you already have sensitive skin or acne-prone skin. Just make it a habit to wash your hands regularly throughout the day and leave your face alone. It is an effective way to be acne free and will save you money on acne medications and acne products.
8. Limit Your Use of Hair Products
When you try different types of hair products in your hair it can cause skin irritation. I noticed that it irritated my skin as my hair was hanging over my cheek; it clogged my pores and led to breakouts. So avoid wearing too many hair products, and it can make a significant difference to your skin. You can use African Black Soap to cleanse your face and keep potential breakouts away. I also like to use a good facial scrub to get rid of dead skin cells and keep my face clear.
9. Exercise and Get Plenty of Sleep
Exercise a few times a week and allow your body to get rid of all its toxins, which is an effective way to be acne-free. It also reduces your stress level. After exercise, not only will you sleep better, but it will also allow your skin cells to regenerate. So be sure that you get more than enough sleep. You will look and feel more naturally beautiful and well-rested, the morning after a good night’s sleep.
The bottom line is, there will be no need to ask yourself why am I breaking out? Just follow these 9 effective ways to be acne-free and you are on the right path to clear skin.
